Large coatings manufacturers are increasingly moving to a retail-inspired model in order to avoid having to hand out commissions and reduce margins. As a result, profits are increasingly concentrated at the top of corporations, sales incentives are disappearing and skilled salespeople with a specialized knowledge of their products and industries are increasingly chained to a sales floor.
